"It was some time before Barker Butts School had any air raid shelters, so we had to go to Radford Road part time.  

The only thing I can remember is when the air raid warnings went off we had to walk past a barrage balloon on the way to the shelter.  While we were waiting for the 'all clear' to go we sang songs, eg 'Ten green bottles hanging on the wall' and 'Bobby Shafto'."
